Working with Dr. Pevzner, I got to witness the first-hand musician with world-class abilities. To know somebody with that kind of skill, ability, and most importantly, work ethic is like chatting with your favorite actor, baseball player, or celebrity, but without the arrogance. The experience made me love and admire music and musicians.

I see you out there…

You’ve always loved music.

Listening to it is enjoyable but PLAYING it YOURSELF is so much more fun!

You may have taken lessons earlier in your life but quit for various reasons. You still want to play but learning pieces is SO difficult: you try, to persevere through the burden of reading all those notes, then you try to memorize it so that you don’t have to read all those notes again, but it’s also difficult to remember all those notes!

Yet, you worked REALLY HARD for months and finally memorized it; you want to play for your family and friends, but you BLANK and can’t remember the first note…

I’ve been there and I can assure you that it doesn’t have to be SO DIFFICULT!

Think back to an impressive performance that amazed you.

That person on stage breezed through beautiful passages of music with such ease and confidence while wowing the audience - it seemed like a piece of cake!

How did they do it?! Oh how you wish you knew their secret!

Guess what - I know the secret, and it is less mystical than you think!

My program is designed to unveil the hidden aspects of music and make them available to you so that you can finally find ease and freedom in learning and performing your favorite pieces.

I think Irina Pevzner’s course revolutionizes the way beginner pianists and professionals alike hear and think about music and piano playing.  Like a house is built upon the foundation, the music is built upon harmonic changes. Our ears, however, get drawn towards the high register, as our eyes instinctively look up towards the steeple. With her approach, Irina trains your ears to hear the foundation on which the music is built upon, reinforcing your memorization, enhancing your sense of phrasing and structure, and developing your ability to hear music in a cohesive way.’

My name is Irina,

and for the past 15 years, I have been helping people like you find a more balanced and fulfilling relationship with their beloved music-making craft.

Frankly, I cannot wait to keep doing it for another 50 years! Why? Because I am obsessed with witnessing people feeling ecstatic after they discover their own ability to break through musical barriers and find true enjoyment in their music practice and performance.

About the program

The program is based on a unique approach to mastering music foundations through playing carefully crafted keyboard sequences. This process bridges the gap between theory and practice. You see, most students typically learn music theory parallel to learning pieces, yet very few realize how theory is utilized in the process of learning music. My approach promotes not only ease in music learning but also allows natural memorization and the ability to cultivate authentic interpretation independently. It is highly individualized and its pace is tailored to each person’s progress.

I have studied piano a lot when I was a child but after going into a profession in the medical field I stopped. Much like a foreign language, lack of practice results in reduced ability to play at a high level.  More than that, a part of my life was missing. Being without my instrument and living in a small apartment meant I had to essentially give up the piano. After about 15 years of being there, I finally began playing again.  But with such a long time without appropriate teaching, many aspects of my playing suffered: technique, voicing, rhythms, passion, and a lack of understanding of the literature that I was reading and playing. I felt that I had lost a large part of myself and needed to get it back. I came across Irina Pevzner after one of the benefit concerts I participated in. She came up and suggested I get back to studying again.  Wow, I thought, what an amazing opportunity, as I knew of Irina—fingers of gold, but could she teach this old bag how to understand and play music the right way again? It was clear after our first lesson that my life was about to change…not only my skills, but my inner-self would change. The cerebral activity was back, my passion for learning, studying, performing, and understanding the music came back.  I know for the first time what the composers wanted to portray in the pieces I’m studying.  She has taught me how to feel the music. Beyond that, the growth of me as a pianist plays second fiddle to how I have grown as a person.  I have become more creative in other aspects of life, which I believe is due to her tutelage. The lessons are energizing and empowering and a true joy that I look forward to as a respite from my busy schedule. Classical piano for me is a life’s mission, it can have positive effects on many other aspects of your life if you let it.

It’s too late for me to do this.

You are not! I personally taught students who were beginners in their 80s! They were able to achieve incredible results and find much joy in playing.

I am not talented enough to get this

In case no one told you - you ARE talented! I actually have a lot to say about the myth of being talented. Click HERE to read an extensive 3-part series on this in my blog.

Music harmony is boring - I just want to play.

While playing is indeed fun, it actually can be boring, too, if it’s limited to a handful of familiar pieces. What excites interest is new possibilities, overcoming a challenge, or seeing the familiar in a different light. Many students have told me that they started enjoying music more after they understood how it is crafted.
